Ghanaian boxer Seth “Freezy Macbones” Gyimah has been crowned the new WBO Africa Light Heavyweight champion after defeating Nigeria’s Godday “Zodsolo” Appah by Verdict: 95 93, 95 93, 94 94. Majority Decision in Lagos.
The championship bout was held on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at The Balmoral in Lagos as part of the Balmoral Group’s “Chaos in the Ring” event, staged to mark Nigeria’s Independence Day celebrations.
Macbones produced a composed and determined performance across the contest, earning the judges’ unanimous decision to claim the WBO Africa Light Heavyweight title.
The victory represents another significant milestone in the career of the Ghanaian, who has continued to build his reputation on the African boxing scene.
Facing home favourite Appah on Nigerian soil, Macbones remained focused throughout the fight and did enough in the eyes of all three judges to secure the championship belt.
For Appah, popularly known as “Zodsolo”, the bout ended in disappointment as his attempt to capture the WBO Africa Light Heavyweight crown fell short.
The victory also gives Macbones a major boost as he looks to establish himself among Africa’s leading light heavyweight fighters and pursue bigger opportunities on the international stage.
The Lagos showdown provided a fitting Independence Day spectacle, with Macbones leaving Nigeria with the WBO Africa Light Heavyweight championship firmly in his possession.
