The new ward complex is expected to improve the hospital’s capacity to provide medical care to police officers, their families and other patients who access its services.
President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned an 85-bed ward complex at the Ghana Police Hospital in Accra and donated two ambulances to strengthen healthcare delivery at the facility.
The new ward complex is expected to improve the hospital’s capacity to provide medical care to police officers, their families and other patients who access its services.
The project forms part of efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure and enhance the welfare of personnel of the Ghana Police Service.
The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, cut the sod for the construction of the facility on August 11, 2025, marking the beginning of the project.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, President Mahama also announced plans to address accommodation challenges facing police officers across the country.
He disclosed that he had requested the Minister of Finance to make provision for GH¢300 million in the 2027 national budget for the construction of 250 new apartments for police personnel.
According to the President, the proposed housing project is intended to ease congestion in some police barracks and improve living conditions for officers.
The proposed allocation is expected to support efforts to expand accommodation for personnel, although its implementation will depend on the budgetary process and the government's subsequent arrangements.
The donation of the two ambulances is also expected to strengthen emergency response and patient transportation at the Police Hospital.
The commissioning of the ward complex, together with the ambulance donation and proposed investment in police accommodation, highlights ongoing efforts to improve the welfare of security personnel and strengthen the facilities available to support their work.
The proposed GH¢300 million housing allocation, if approved and implemented, would represent a further step towards addressing accommodation pressures within the Ghana Police Service.
